We had a successful (and chilly) night of Reading Under the Lights on Friday ! There were a couple of requests for a hot chocolate stand next year! We'll see what we can do :) Thank you to everyone who came out to participate!

Today 4th, 5th, and 6th grade participated in a mock election. They checked in with ID, cast their votes, and saw how results are tallied and counted. Their favorite animal is dog, favorite subject is science, favorite team is the bobcats, favorite pizza is pepperoni. They voted in favor of enforcing the "No homework law," and voted not in favor of having cake for breakfast. Thanks to Brandi and Liv at our county election office for coming in a coordinating our mock election!

What is Red Ribbon Week?
Red Ribbon Week is our nation's largest and longest-running drug-use prevention campaign. It began as a result of the kidnapping and death of Enrique "Kiki" Camarena, a Drug Enforcement Administration Agent, that was working to bring down one of the largest drug traffickers in the nation. His family, friends, and much-loved community began to wear red badges of satin in his honor, and the symbol of drug prevention was born. In 1988, the National Family Partnership sponsored the first Red Ribbon Celebration, and today the Red Ribbon continues to signify hope for healthier choices and communities.

Mrs. Freeze's 5th graders interviewed local veterans last week for the upcoming Veterans Day program at the school. More details about the program will be available soon.
Due to the shortage of officials there will be two changes to the high school football schedule:
1) Senior Night will be October 18th vs. Lincoln
2) The final game of the regular season is Thursday, October 24th vs. West Yellowstone.

In the wake of a heartbreaking tragedy, our neighboring community needs our support now more than ever. Join us as we come together to lend a helping hand by relieving some of the financial burden. We are going to host Penny Wars starting 10/9 thru 10/14 to help the Shields Valley families. If your child asks for a few coins this would be the reason. If you can share, please do so. Let the game begin.
Tomorrow, we kick off College Application Week in Hornet Country! Teachers will be sharing their own alma maters and experiences throughout all grade levels, and we encourage parents to do the same. Seniors and parents are encouraged to attend the College Application Night on Tuesday evening, and all are encouraged to sport their college pride on Friday. Questions regarding the week and applying for colleges (and more!) can be directed to our School Counselor, Ms. Tiffany.
